Carnal - Broad Stones, 2017
Clay form: 21 x 35 x 78 cms (hwd), and Pallet: 16 x 60 x 120 cms (hwd)
Layered terracotta and porcelain are hand formed, unfired and placed on a bespoke hardwood pallet.
Part of body of work shown on Holy Island called for the exhibition 'Materiality'. The unfired clay was left to the mercy of the elements on the exposed north east coast.
Carnal is part of a collection of work called Corporeality, which are works that are bodily both in form and in the process in which they are made. The skin like qualities of the clay bodies are highlighted by stretching, cracking, creasing, folding, binding and restraining. Material and maker working together.
